THE WORLD OF YOUR PASSIONS

3 Days at PortAventura World: Halloween and Family Fun

Shambhala, Dragon Khan and Red Force may be the first things that come to mind. But when I think back on PortAventura World, I also remember a conversation in a taxi, a father introducing his sons to the park he loved as a child, and the streets of the Far West lit up for Halloween. Here’s what stayed with me after three days and two nights.

On the Road, Alberto Tells Me About His PortAventura

My visit begins in a taxi. Alberto, my driver, has known PortAventura World for years. He loves watching first-time visitors take it all in: the children’s wide-eyed reactions, the adults getting swept up in the fun, and the way the scenery still makes him feel like a kid himself.

As we talk, he tells me about Dreams Village, a place where seriously ill children can spend time with their families away from the routines of hospital life. His tone grows more emotional. I haven’t even entered the park yet, and already I’m curious to see a side of it I hadn’t expected.

Halloween in the Far West: A Different Park After Dark

Shortly after entering the park, I meet a French visitor who tells me why she chose to come in autumn. She wanted to avoid the crowds she associates with August and see the Halloween decorations. The atmosphere was as much a draw for her as the rides.

I see what she means when I return to the Far West after dark. During our visit, part of the area was reserved for a private evening event. The lighting transformed the storefronts, and the streets I’d walked through during the day looked so different that I felt as though I were discovering them all over again.

A Family’s First Visit… Almost

Over lunch at The Iron Horse on October 27, I strike up a conversation with a family from Perpignan. They’d driven about two and a half hours and planned to spend one night at the resort. The father first visited PortAventura as a child. Now he’s back with his wife and their two boys, aged seven and nine, who are seeing it for the first time.

The parents tell me they’re not big fans of rides themselves. Their question is a practical one: how do you find attractions that suit both boys and give everyone something to enjoy? For the father, the trip brings back memories; for the children, it’s all new.

If you’re visiting as a family, pick out a few rides together and check the height requirements before you go. Leave time for a show, a leisurely lunch or a break by the water, so everyone has something to look forward to.

Salva Marsal on Finding Your Own Pace

Dragon Khan and Shambhala at PortAventura Park and Red Force at Ferrari Land are familiar names to thrill seekers. When I meet Salva Marsal, PortAventura World’s head of communications, he also talks about the shows and rides for younger children. A family with small children and a group of friends there for the roller coasters can have very different days in the same park.

That’s what I enjoyed about having three days there. I could wander from the lush greenery of Polynesia to the storefronts of the Far West, stop by the water, then take in the lights of Ferrari Land in the evening. There was time to linger wherever I felt like it.

In the video, Salva Marsal introduces PortAventura World and shares different ways to enjoy the park.

Dreams Village: Time Together as a Family

I finally visit the place Alberto told me about. Run by the PortAventura Foundation, Dreams Village welcomes seriously ill children and their loved ones, giving them a break from hospital life and a chance to spend time together.

The visit takes me back to that conversation in the taxi. Alberto had talked about the joy of seeing families discover the park together. At Dreams Village, I came to understand what those moments can mean: time to play, relax and enjoy being together when everyday life leaves little room for it.
